The Army of Peace worldbeat sounds reference to the collapse of the Imperial Russian Army, 1856-1917. The Russian Revolution’s success happened with the mutiny of a class-conscious army. The soldier’s revolt in 1917 was more a social revolution than an anti-war movement. It was a revolution based on social distinctions within the officer corps as well as between the ranks. The army’s involvement in the political struggle was steadily increasing and by autumn 1917, it had become an influential political force that played an independent and decisive role in changing society. The Army of Peace also references a large alliance of Fertit tribal militias in Western Bahr el Ghazal during the Second Sudanese Civil War from 1983 to 2005. Two million people died as a result of war, famine, and disease caused by the conflict. Another four million people in southern Sudan were displaced.
“Eye Have Love” is the English translation of the Hebrew word Ahavah, which also means to act lovingly toward, or to be loyal to. In ancient treaties, an enemy king who signed a covenant of peace with another king would pledge to love the king — meaning to act loyally about him. When the Israelites were commanded to love God with all of their hearts as part of their covenant, it was to commit their lives to him as their only God.
