What is Busking 3.0?

Busking is the practice of performing in public places for voluntary donations. It’s a form of street performance where musicians, singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, or other performers entertain passersby, often with the hope of receiving money. Buskers may also perform for tips in bars, restaurants, or other establishments. This form of entertainment is common in many cities around the world and can contribute to a vibrant local culture and arts scene.

Busking can help musicians in several ways:

  • Additional Income: Busking provides a direct source of income through the tips and donations received from the public. This can supplement other sources of income, such as paid gigs, music sales, or streaming revenue.
  • Exposure and Promotion: Performing in public places exposes the musician to a broad audience, including locals and tourists. This can help increase their visibility, attract new fans, and potentially lead to other performance opportunities.
  • Practice and Experience: Busking offers musicians the opportunity to practice their performance skills in a live setting. This can help them improve their craft, gain confidence, and learn how to engage with an audience.
  • Networking: Busking can lead to connections with other musicians, industry professionals, or supporters who can provide further opportunities or resources.
  • Direct Feedback: Street performance allows musicians to gauge audience reactions in real-time, which can provide valuable feedback and help them refine their performances or songwriting.
  • Creative Freedom: Unlike structured gigs, busking often allows musicians to experiment with their repertoire, style, or performance techniques, providing a platform for creative expression.

Busking 1.0 is tipping with fiat, Busking 2.0 is tipping with Bitcoin, and Busking 3.0 is tipping with Satoshis.

What is the Difference Between Fiat, Bitcoin, and Satoshis?

Fiat currency is a type of currency that is issued by a government and is not backed by a physical commodity like gold or silver. The value of fiat money is derived from the relationship between supply and demand and the stability of the issuing government, rather than the worth of a physical quantity of a commodity backing it. Examples include the US Dollar, Euro, and British Pound.

Bitcoin is a type of digital or cryptocurrency that operates on a decentralized network of computers, away from central banking systems. It was created in 2009 by an anonymous person (or group of people) known as Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger known as the blockchain. Bitcoin is also the name of the protocol that allows for this peer-to-peer transfer.

A Satoshi, often abbreviated as ‘sats’, is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. It is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. One Bitcoin is equivalent to 100 million Satoshis. This allows for fractional transactions up to 8 decimal places, helping Bitcoin be used for micro-transactions or in economies where the value of a single Bitcoin is extremely high in local currency.

Why Busking 3.0 Benefits Artists?

There is a need for Bitcoin/Lightning and NFT adoption and acceleration for creatives because they have not been able to perform and exhibit at live events much since health restrictions began in March 2020. Numerous venues are no longer in business or booking live music and art events.

These closures have impacted local musicians and artists from making an income. Also, with the spiraling costs due to economic factors such as inflation, musical artists are keen to keep shows local in public spaces that allow for the assembly of people to engage in celebration. The pandemic hit the music industry hard, with live performance revenue the biggest casualty. So now, artists are going direct to fans from our studios with live streaming and producing live shows.
